As someone whoโs followed the NFL closely over the years, Iโve always been fascinated by the resilience of fans and players alike โ especially when it comes to New York football. (Even if you don't like American football, stay with me for a minute.)
Now, Iโll admit it: Iโm a diehard Giants fan, and it hasnโt always been easy (especially in these last few years). But letโs take a moment to appreciate the New York Jets. Being a Jets fan? Thatโs another level of resilience. Season after season, no matter how tough it gets, Jets fans stay loyal, keep on hoping, and continue to cheer on their team through thick and thin.
The Giants have four Super Bowl titles, with two occurring in the past 20 years. (Ouch, has it been 13 years since the last one?) Jets fans, on the other hand, have been living through a rough patch for quite some time with just a single win in 1969. Their seasons often start with high expectations, only to end in disappointment.
Their 2023 season started with hope, as they brought in future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers. Unfortunately, in a cruel twist of fate, Rodgers tore his Achilles just four snaps into his first game with the team, sidelining him for the entire season and ushering in yet another challenging year for the Jets.
But do Jets fans give up? No. And neither do the Jets. Loyal sports fans and players alike stay true to their teams โ which means proudly wearing their colors despite the number on the scoreboard. (That means even if your team posts a scoreless opening game like the Giants did to open 2023.)
Can the same loyalty be said for the companies we work for? After all, the strength of a company isn't only forged when it reaches the pinnacle of success. Often it's the opposite, based on how it handles adversity, hardships, and difficult transitions. The ability to sustain momentum and continue as an organization is a true indicator of longevity. And who better to speak to about such topics than HR leaders?
Dr. Dieter Veldsman, the Chief Scientist at the Academy to Innovate HR (AIHR), joined Staffbase Chief People Officer Neil Morrison on the Aspire to Inspire Podcast to discuss how businesses can adapt to the future of work. The HR leaders discussed the shifting role of their field and explored strategies for building resilience and trust in the workplace.
One of Dr. Veldsmanโs areas of focus is organizational identity โ on which he reveals the future of companies might depend. By fostering a culture of trust, clarity, and continuous learning, HR leaders empower teams to navigate uncertainty with confidence and purpose.
Dr. Veldsman reminds us that resilience isn't just about bouncing back โ itโs about evolving, adapting, and inspiring others to move forward, even when the path is unclear. Just ask any fan of the New York Jets.
